God has been calling out unlikely people to be warriors since the beginning of time.
All of them seemed so unqualified and least likely to be chosen. Luckily, God doesn’t choose based on our recommendations. He saw the king in David, the queen in Esther, the ruler in Joseph, the leader in Moses, and the devotion in Mary Magdalene before they were those things. He chose them for what they would accomplish, not based on who they were in the beginning. They were unexpected warriors.
Best part yet, He calls us to step out because He sees who we are capable of being. Can you even wrap your mind around that? The Creator of the universe created you for a specific purpose?! Absolutely. You are an unexpected warrior too.
Who’s an Unexpected Warrior?
The mom juggling the household chores, a toddler, and a newborn.
The woman who works 60+ hours at her job.
The single mom working to provide for her child.
The woman who is battling cancer.
There are so many unexpected warriors out there that God has a purpose for. We’re constantly going to battle for our children, spouses, friends, and family. You might look at yourself and think, “There’s no way I’m someone who should be called a warrior.” Honestly, you probably don’t look like a warrior. But then again, David didn’t give off the appearance of a king when he faced Goliath. I’m certain Mary Magdalene didn’t look like much when she was getting seven demons cast out of her. I know for sure that I look nothing like a warrior either. That is why I say unexpected warrior! The world won’t be able to tell just by looking at us. Satan will be caught off guard when we step out. But most importantly, God won’t be surprised at all. He saw the warrior in you before you even knew you were one. Jeremiah 1:5 NLT says,
“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”
He knew you before you were born. He didn’t just know what your name would be, and what you would look like, or that you’d skin your knee after falling on our bike when you were 5 years old. He knew the warrior He created you to be before you were even conceived! You are chosen and set apart.
I think today we need to start acting like unexpected warriors. Let’s start walking with a purpose much higher than our mundane day to day responsibilities. The King of Kings has called YOU to be His warrior. Let that sink in, and maybe next time you look in the mirror, you’ll get a glimpse of who He created and sees you to be.
